What to do els wearing face cover mask in this Pandemic?
Here are the guidelines everyone should follow to protect themselves against COVID-19: stay home as much as possible; avoid groups and crowds; maintain a physical distance of two meters from others; wash your hands often; avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth if you have not washed your hands; cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze; and wash your hands immediately after coughing or sneezing.
Why make the wearing of face coverings compulsory now?
The reopening of the economy means people are returning to work and moving more around the community. We used to isolate at home, but now there is more interaction between people. Therefore, the risk of exposure to COVID-19 is higher.
As contact between people increases, the risk of a rapid rise in infections and outbreaks is ever-present.
Scientific evidence shows that wearing a face mask coverings in closed public places is an effective way to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
I thought we didn’t have a lot of active cases in my area. Why should I care about wearing a face cover?
The situation is constantly changing. Even though there are no “confirmed” cases of COVID-19, that doesn’t mean the virus isn’t circulating in our communities or that it won’t reappear.
We also know that people without symptoms can transmit COVID-19. A face cover mask is one way you can help protect others.
Once a case is confirmed and has exposed a person to the virus, it is too late. It is important to take whatever steps we can to help reduce the risk of infection.
What is the proper way to wear a face cover mask?
To put it:
- Wash your hands.
- Put on your face maskand adjust it around your face (so it covers your nose and mouth).
- Avoid touching the inside of the face cover.
- Don’t share your face covering with other people.
- If the face cover becomes slightly damp or soiled, change it.
To remove it:
- Wash your hands.
- Throw it in the garbage bag of a garbage can (with a disposable mask).
- Wash your hands again.
**Wash your hands before putting on your mask, before touching or adjusting it, before taking it off, and after taking it off.

I wear a plastic face shield. Is it correct?
A plastic face shield does not provide a proper fit around your nose, chin, and mouth. A face shield can provide additional protection for the wearer against droplets from another person.
However, it is still possible to breathe these droplets around the face shield. Respiratory droplets from the person wearing the face shield can also escape through the sides of the face shield, making other people less protective.
If you wear a face shield, do so in combination with wearing a sheet mask.
Is a face shield a suitable alternative for someone who cannot wear a mask?
A face shield is not a substitute for wearing a mask or face covering. The face shield does not filter respiratory droplets and does not fit snugly around the nose, mouth, and chin.
However, the WHO (World Health Organization) supports the use of face shields as an alternative when “nothing better” is available.
What are the characteristics of a face cover mask?
- I should make the mask from two layers of tightly-woven fabric, such as cotton, flannel, or quilting cotton.
- It must have two colors of the fabric to distinguish the inner and outer sides.
- The most comfortable fabric should be on the inside, against the face.
- There should be no seams around the mouth and nose (as air may escape).
- The mask should remain intact and keep its shape after washing and drying.
- The mask should fit snugly around your nose and mouth and seated securely on your head with clips or around your ears with elastic bands.
- We should note that round elastic bands may be more comfortable around the ears than a wide, flat elastic band.
What about my child?
Children can be symptomatic or asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19. Children over two years old should wear a face cover mask to protect people around them if it is not possible to maintain a distance of two meters.
We do not recommend face coverings for children under two years of age; and children with cognitive impairments who could not safely wear a mask.
Once the mask is in place, children should not touch it, as this could increase the risk of contamination. If you think your child can understand and follow the rules for wearing a mask, encourage them to wear it.
Here are some tips for your child to wear a mask:
- Talk to your child
- Explain to him why he should wear a mask.
- Be sensitive to their emotions and listen to their concerns.
- Choose a mask in the presence of your child
- If possible, involve your child in choosing a fabric mask.
- Integrate the masks into the games
- At home, make the masks available to children so that they can discover them and have fun with them.
- Remember, you are a role model. Therefore, also wear your face mask
